You can also call 111 directly for healthcare advice or they will direct you to the most appropriate and available local service.
You should use 111:
- If you cannot wait for a GP appointment,
- If you do not know who to call for medical help,
- If you think you need to go to a hospital accident and emergency department,
- If it is not a 999 emergency.
Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
In a genuine emergency you should call 999. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
